Edelweiss just dumped a ton of rope on us. We are psyched about this. You should be too. Here is what we got:

-Edelweiss FLASHLIGHT ARC**** 10mm – comes in 60M and 70M – this is currently our least expensive bi-pattern rope.

-Edelweiss FLASHLIGHT - 70M 10mm rope for 169.95?! BOOYA!

-Edelweiss DISCOVER 8.0MM X 30M Rope – good for glacier travel and what not.

-Edelweiss ALLY 10.3 x 60M Rope – now in three snazzy colors – orange, purple, yellow. I wish that they could have made it available in rainbow as well, but that probably would have raised the price point. I’m convinced that this is the best entry-level rope available anywhere. Three reasons:
1) Great inexpensive cord for the first -time climber
2) Larger diameter 10.3 is safer for rappelling and belaying for the novice
3) Larger diameter ropes are more durable and less likely to cut over edges
Really, if anyone can suggest a better first rope for the new climber, then you can cut of my legs and call me “Shorty”. Or alternatively, light me on fire and call me “Smokey”. Better still, discredit me entirely buy doing nothing to my physical state and just calling me “the guy who post long-winded blogs about climbing gear that he clearly hasn’t researched very well”. But honestly people, you won’t find a better rope for the application.
-Edelweiss LASER ARC 9.6MM X 70M and 60M – I’ve been told that these ropes are about the best rope of its class for the price.

****ARC stands for “advanced rope control”. This heightened level of control is a result of the rope being what most people call a “bi-pattern”. This means that the rope contains two equally beautiful patterns that each represents half of the rope, making the mid-point easily distinguishable at a glance.

On a completely unrelated note, we finally received the new Camelbak STAMINA 1 22 oz Perfomance Bottle that we have had on backorder for a while. Curtis, you NEED one of these to step up your trail running game.

On a slightly more relevant note, I have made the switch to boxer-briefs, and I’m loving it.
